Kalos Eidos: A Kaleidoscope of Digital Art

On one of my aforementioned nature walks, I snapped a picture of a pile of dried leaves. I thought it might make an interesting texture for a kaleidoscope. Here is the resulting Autumn Leaves Kaleidoscope on a mug. Also available on mousepad, keychain, stickers and more.

I’ve recently started to explore the nature trails and parks in my area, and have been thinking a better camera than my old one would be a good investment, as I also enjoy dabbling in some photography. It’s always nice to have a decent camera on hand when you run into some nice bit of scenery or co-operative wildlife, right? To that end, I decided to give myself an early Christmas present and bought a new 10MP camera. Here’s a photo taken with the new camera of a Ring Billed Gull (commonly called a seagull). It can be purchased on a mouse pad, mugs, greeting cards and more.

The basis for this kaleidoscope was a photo of a pile of stones that found on the roadside. I did make some texture changes to the photo, but kept the natural colors before turning it into a kaleidoscope. It’s titled “Natural Beauty”. Several weeks ago, I treated myself to a subscription to a graphics website, KRW Designs. The price was very reasonable for beautiful graphics and they can be used for commercial projects like Zazzle products. You can get a subscription, order CDs or purchase premium background sets. There is even a nice selection of free graphics. Be sure to read the terms of use before using any of the graphics, but I’m sure you’ll find them extremely reasonable and generous. In addition, there is currently a contest going with the winner receiving a 6 month subscription to the site! Read about the rules here.

I’ve done up a few designs so far using some of the graphics, and here is a kaleidoscope that I did from Easter eggs. The design can be purchased on greeting cards, postage stamps, t-shirt’s, stickers and more. The entire line can be found here.

Kalos Eidos

The other day I was looking through some of my photo cds and came across a photo I took in 2002. It’s a photo of a female Mallard that took the time to pose for me in the park near my residence. I’ve been wanting to add some photography to my gallery and I thought this would make a nice first photo to add.

Before there was some major renovation done at the park a few years ago, it was a popular nesting grounds for ducks, swans, geese and other birds. It wasn’t unusual to see the occasional egret or bald eagle in the area, as well. They’ve mostly moved elsewhere due to all of the chaos, but now that the work had been finished I’m hopeful that the birds will start to eventually return to their earlier numbers. Some individuals would allow regular visitors to get fairly close, as seen with this photo.
